Doctor = BIG money!!

We decided, after a REALLY rough night with Mac, that we would take him to the Dr. to get his ears checked yesterday. His regular check up was scheduled for today, but I just couldn't stand the thought of him suffering through another night like that.

We finally got an official weight for Mac..... 19lb 2oz! He is a porker! Also, the nurse checked his oxygen levels, which ended up being a 96 (normal is between 94 and 100), so that was good! Dr. P checked his right ear and said it looked great, but then he checked the left ear. Apparently it was pretty bad. He took one look and said "Yep that one is infected". So he prescribed a $40 antibiotic. Then after listening to Mac's heart and lungs, Dr. P said he thought there was broncialitus. So he gave him a 10 minute breathing treatment with the nebulizer. I couldn't believe how much of a difference it made! This is actually Mac's 2nd case of broncialitus and apparently that is not good especially since there is a case of asthma on Morris' side of the family. So we left the Dr.'s office with another appt in 2 weeks to recheck his ear, get routine shots and check his breathing, and we are now the proud (not really) owners of a new Nebulizer! When we picked up the prescriptions for the antibiotic we also picked up the meds for the breathing treatments. $381 later I left Wal-Mart!

I haven't gotten the bill for the machine yet, but I am hoping that most of it will be covered by insurance! I am so glad we already have our Federal Tax refund and that we budget every month for Dr visits and prescriptions!

Despite the expense, I am so glad we have this machine! We gave him a treatment last night and he slept so good! We gave him another this morning and can already tell a huge difference in his breathing! He is back to his normal laid back self and is smiling constantly! I am so glad he feels better!

  1. Girl...Been there, done that, bought the tshirt. Westin has had broncialitus twice {I think...maybe 3 times}, an upper resp infection, and the croup twice and he is not even 9 months old. Doc says he does have asthma but could possibly grow out of it. We have meds to prevent the weasing and meds to get rid of the weazing and have used the nebulizer at least once a month. As far as billing for the nebulizer, it cost us $178.00 after insurance and I have very good "teacher" insurance that covers most everything. Just get ready! So glad to hear little man is feeling better! I am going to need an updated pic of that chunk of a hunk! From his stats he seems to be just about as big as Westin our big man is a hous!
