Our Story: Arkansas to Alabama

If you are new to the Our Story Series, Start HERE

In the Fall of 2003 I transferred to Harding to be with Morris. This was the beginning of his second year in college and my 3rd. I was very nervous because Morris was already established here and I felt a little displaced, only knowing Morris and his sister Katie. He was quick to show me around town...only took a few hours, (Searcy is seriously small) and he introduced me to all of his friends...he had lots of them! We were both taking 5 classes and had chapel every morning so we stayed pretty busy. During Morris' first year he played soccer but had decided to leave the team beginning with his second year. (that is a really long story.) A few weeks after school started, We decided to visit the Rialto. The Rialto is a grand old Movie House that costs only a 2.00 and plays the same movie every night for 3 weeks!

We were going on Monday because they had free popcorn that night and they were playing Finding Nemo, sad I know but we were hard up for something to do. We had spent dinner and the drive over talking about college and the amount of money we were spending on school and our student loans. By the time we got to the movie we had decided to make the best of the semester and transfer out in December. We both felt that Out of State Private College tuition was too much to spend, when we could get the same, if not better education at home. This decision was not made lightly. We gave up the opportunity to spend a semester studying abroad in Italy together, but felt it was the best decision for us.
Our time at Harding was a blast! We both did really well in our classes, made the Dean's list, and we packed in as much as we could around town. While the weather was warm we went fishing...

I caught my first fish!!

We aslo spent a lot of time on the swings around campus. I loved those swings! We would talk, study and watch the MASSIVE squirrels. Most of the weekends that we didn't go home, we would drive the 45 minutes to Little Rock to eat, go to the movies and walk around in the mall.

My favorite past time of Searcy was going to Pizza Pro every Tuesday with Katie. Pizza Pro is awesome! It is a buffet like Cici's but WAY better! They have this Chocolate Chip pizza that is to die for! We usually would eat so much we would be sick!
The Go Carts were pretty fun too!

Every day after classes were over, usually around 2 or 3, we would go to the student center to check our mail my mail. Morris rarely got anything but I got a letter from my Mom everyday. It was a highlight for both of us. It would just be a few sentences about what was going on back home and sometimes there would be a surprise. We got pizza hut gift cards, cash, and other things that any student would need. During that semester we came home 6 times, some for long weekends and other for Holidays.
We celebrated our birthdays at Harding and back home. These are the only 2 pictures I could find:

As the semester came to a close we both got very anxious, we were ready to be back in Birmingham. My Mom and Grandmother drove out to pick us up. We loaded down their van and Morris' car and headed home.
For us, being back in Birmingham was great! We enrolled at UAB in the Spring of 2004 and started working on our Accounting degrees. Yes, we are both accountants.

Life continued to rock along...going to school part time and working part time.
I was working at the Jewelry Store and Morris had gotten a soccer coaching position at Oak Mt High School.
We were saving money, trying not to create debt and working really hard to get through school. We took all the same classes at the same time. We were spending a lot of time together! Most of our friends were either at AU or UA for school so it was really just us and new friends that we were making. This is when we began getting to know Paul and Julie.

We had been together over a year at this point and I knew he was the one. My Brother had just recently (October of 2003) gotten engaged to Laura so there was Wedding in the air. Morris and I were in the wedding in Mid-May. Most of the spring 2004 semester was school, work, and wedding events. All of the wedding stuff really got us talking about our future plans.

Up next Summer and Fall of 2004.
